dAcoy, Panoramas, Features, TRON

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 30, 2009, 5:23 AM

EDIT: Found this neat little Visual Effects Concept Test Footage of TRON Legacy (coming 2011) just a few minutes ago. :excited:

dA is baiting former subscribers beta-testers with a 7 day premium membership. So I take this opportunity to make a new journal after half a year. :D
Since I love to log out and back in again, I created my 4th dA-account called ~Panomenal (I know it might sound a bit overconfident, but I thought it's a funny idea without thinking it over twice).
I want to do something different for a while. Something that doesn't involve textures, dirt and scratches, but sharpness, detail and vividness.

Getting Old

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 17, 2009, 10:46 AM

Today I received a nice little series of Polaroids* shot by Florian Hierer and his father at a shooting gallery on an annual fair called Heinerfest. I thought I share it with you since it made me smile in a melancholic kind of way.
Clicking on the index image leads you to Florian's account at Facebook. I hope you don't have to be a member of facebook to watch it.

*) From 2005 they switched from analog to digital.

Something Ain't Right

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 11, 2008, 12:42 PM

EDIT: I tried to submit a new journal, but something went wrong. all the CSS code, header and footer dissappeard! By all means be sure to save it temporarely when working on a journal.

I'm on vacation, it's raining outside and my love is on a two-day trip to Bingen with her Kindergarten kids, so I though I spend the afternoon writing and designing me a brand-new journal layout. I have the vague feeling the half-assed CSS is full of bugs and crooked code, so if you encounter funky things happening in other browsers than Firefox, I'm really sorry. :giggle:

Furthermore I'm working on the post production of a video by Klimek about jewish children from Hebron. It's still work in progress, but if you want to take a look, click the picture below.

No More Copy 'n' Pasty

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 8, 2008, 9:08 AM

Just a short intermission to present a nice little gadget for all you big thumb lovers:
It becomes more and more popular to create features with large thumbs instead of using regular deviant art thumbs. Although dA isn't very amused when it comes to hyperlinking, it just looks so sexy that you simply can't resist! But there's one thing that's really annoying about creating hyperlinks: You have to insert both, the page and graphic link, manually into your journal for each and every single deviation. Not anymore!
Now, if you use Firefox, have Greasemonkey installed and aren't a security freak that has Javascript disabled, help is on the way: `BoffinbraiN was so very kind to add a nice little extra feature to his excellent little helper the Gallery Toolbox 1.6. It now also generates the complete html code automatically nested in a text area field right beneath the embed and thumb code on a deviation page for your convenience.

Try it out! It's save, it's free, it's fun!

It's Been a Hard Time

Journal Entry: Sun May 25, 2008, 12:34 PM

Hossa! It's been a while since my last journal update. That's because I can't focus on things very well. I have ideas of what I could write, but no time. Then I have time, but can't remember what to write. It's hard for me to write in english too. .. . so, let's make it short.

· recently my PC started to crash randomly with a blue screen (STOP 7F - the so called Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap double-fault error Hm, I think I want this on a t-shirt). After mistakengly buying two (!) processors and a mainboard (because Microsoft says it's most likely the CPU or the MOBO), I found out that the WLAN card caused this behaviour. A few days later the Windows Installer crashed rendering the installed XP useless since you can't de- and install things. So, in the end I had to save my personal data and reinstall XP after a Repair-setup failed and irrevocably turned XP to crap. All in all it took me about 6 weeks to get everything fixed again.
And no, I am not going to buy a Mac after all this!

· Since january I have a new old job. I was inflicted with new responsibilities which, in the end, turned out to be old responsibilities only four times more. We had a brutal start: our company moved into a new office, we had about 20 projects with 1-3 customers and 5 with 4-8 customers (that's about three time more than we had in the past) and we switched over to a more efficient new enterprise resource planning software (and of course nothing was working). The pressure was extraordinary and my body reacted with stress symptoms like neurodermatitis, sleeplessness and abjection.

All that and other private things and thoughts that don't belong here don't leave much space for creativity lately.
:(

But others have been creative AND productive so,
Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you:

[The Curiously Uncommon]

Ocean Acoustics

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 8, 2008, 11:03 AM

The Alfred Wegener Institute provides an interessting acoustic live stream of the Antarctic underwater soundscape.
It is highly compressed (24kBit Ogg-Vorbis), so sound quality is not perfect. Additionally, sounds may be very faint. The amplifier settings are a compromise between picking up distant animal voices and not overcharging the system by nearby calving icebergs. So please beware of sudden extreamely loud events.

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 19, 2008, 2:05 AM

Maybe not hot news, but I recently stumbled upon it and thought I feature it here for all you Chris Cunningham fans out there. For me it also has very clear David Lynch influences, but decide for yourself. Enjoy.

Oh, and the sceptic somehow irritated look of the drummer as well as the evoking look of the bassist are simply ace! : )

"...The 1.5-minute clip, narrated by lead singer Faris Badwan, stars Samantha Morton as the song's manic, transmogrifying subject, a punked-up Carrie who whips around like a banshee and spews her intestines at you. Sharply edited and shot on a low budget, the video burns on the bass' running pulse, and provides more fleshy fodder for Cunningham fans."

25 Sign you Have Grown up

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 29, 2007, 11:07 AM

Usually you get those those thing via email. But this one was the first in english so I thought I share with you guys. Have fun, it's really true...

1. Your house plants are alive - and you can't smoke any of them.
2. Having sex in a twin bed is out of the question.
3. You keep more food than beer in the fridge and the beer is imported.
4. 6:00 AM is when you get up, not when you go to bed.
5. You hear your favorite song in an elevator. (or you find yourself singing along at the grocery store)
6. You watch the Weather Channel. (hey - only on game day!)
7. Your friends marry and divorce instead of "hook up" and "break up."
8. You go from 130 days of vacation time to 14.
9. Jeans and a sweater no longer qualify as "dressed up."
10. You're the one calling the police because those %&@# kids next door won't turn down the stereo.
11. Older relatives feel comfortable telling sex jokes around you.
12. You don't know what time Taco Bell closes anymore.
13. Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up.
14. You feed your dog Science Diet instead of McDonald's leftovers.
15. Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt.
16. You take naps.
17. Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.
18. Eating a basket of chicken wings (a bag of White Castle sliders) at 3 AM would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach.
19. You go to the drug store for ibuprofen and antacid, not condoms and pregnancy tests.
20. A $4.00 bottle of wine is no longer "pretty good shit." (hahahahaha, no kidding)
21. You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time.
22. "I just can't drink the way I used to" replaces "I'm never going to drink that much again." (said that on Friday night)
23. 90% of the time you spend in front of a computer is for real work.
24. You drink at home to save money before going to a bar.
25. When you find out your friend is pregnant you congratulate them instead of asking "Oh, shit, what the hell happened?"

Bonus:
26: You read this entire list looking desperately for one sign that doesn't apply to you and can't find one to save your sorry old ass. Then you forward it to a bunch of old friends 'cause you know they'll "relate".

Liths & Favs

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 23, 2007, 3:54 PM

Before I start with the obligatory features, I'd like to show you a gift the nurse of my doctor gave me:

A few minutes after she took a blood sample I got a mighty big swelling with the size of a ping pong ball which dissolved into a funky variety of bruises a few hours later! There's nothing more valuable than a competent emloyee. :S

Nothing left to say except happy holidays y'all. Hope you'll enjoy the next days of love, contemplativeness, crapulence and gifts!
